Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess, by the last date of application, either:
- B.Sc Nursing (4-year course) from an Indian Nursing Council/State Medical Faculty recognised Institute or University, or B.Sc Nursing (Post Basic) (2-year course) from an Indian Nursing Council recognised institute/university, and be registered as Nurse & Midwife in State/Indian Nursing Council; OR
- Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) from an Indian Nursing Council recognised Institute/Board/Council, registered as Nurse & Midwife in State/Indian Nursing Council, with two years' experience in a minimum 50-bedded hospital after acquiring the above qualification.
Domicile and Other Conditions
- Only permanent residents (Domicile) of Uttar Pradesh are eligible to apply for reserved posts (both horizontal and vertical reservation); SC/ST/OBC/EWS/DFF/Women/Ex-servicemen candidates who are not original residents of UP will be considered Unreserved (UR).
- Male candidates who are married and have more than one living wife, or female candidates who have married a man with an already-living wife, are not eligible unless exempted by the Governor.

Candidates belonging to other (horizontal reservation) categories must pay the fee according to their basic vertical category. The fee is non-refundable, and the application printout cannot be taken until the fee is deposited.
GIMS Staff Nurse Selection Process
- Selection is through a Computer Based Test (CBT) of objective-type questions related to nursing, with 80% questions on theoretical knowledge and 20% on practical knowledge.
- No candidate is allowed to enter the examination without an admit card issued by the designated examination body.
- Negative marking applies: 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer; unanswered questions carry no penalty.
- Candidates with equal marks are ranked by age, with the older candidate placed higher in the merit list.
- Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General, EWS, and OBC candidates; 35% for SC and ST candidates.
- The "Mark for Review" option is available during the CBT within the active section's time only; a question answered and marked for review is evaluated as the final answer, while one left unanswered and marked for review is treated as unattempted.
- Final selection is based on: (i) Merit in the CBT, (ii) Biometric and document verification, and (iii) Medical Examination.
- Selected candidates must undergo the required medical examination as per prescribed rules.

The application process is divided into five parts:

- Only the date of birth recorded in the High School or equivalent certificate will be valid.
- Reserved category candidates must mention their category in the application; only UP domicile candidates get the benefit of reservation.
- Ex-servicemen and dependents of freedom fighters must submit their claim in the prescribed format issued by the competent authority.
- Applicants in regular Government service must present a "No Objection Certificate (NOC)" from their employer.
- No printed/hard copy of the online application or documents needs to be sent by post; however, applicants must keep a printed copy with them.
