About TISS

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is at V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai - 400 088. The notice describes it as a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and a grant-in-aid Institute under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, established in 1936. It has four campuses: Mumbai (main campus), Hyderabad, Guwahati and Tuljapur (rural campus).

Who Can Apply

Only male candidates can apply for this post. The post is unreserved, but it is open to candidates of all categories.

Educational Qualification

• Minimum Requirement: 10th standard from a Government recognized School.
• Literacy: Basic reading and writing skills in Marathi/Hindi/English to understand safety labels, chemical instructions and guest requests.

Preferred Skills and Work Experience

• Preference will be given to candidates who have a certificate in Hospitality/Housekeeping/Hostel Maintenance.
• Duration: 6 months to 2 years of experience in a similar role.
• Relevant environments: prior experience working in hostels, hotels, guest houses, hospitals or student dormitories.
• Key tasks: proven experience in handling industrial cleaning equipment, chemical safety, bed-making and deep-cleaning bathrooms.
• Candidates with good oral communication skills in Hindi, Marathi and preferably English will be given preference.

Required Skills and Attributes

• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend and lift heavy items (like mattresses or laundry bags) for long hours.
• Interpersonal Skills: A polite, friendly manner, because hostels involve frequent, direct interaction with international and young travellers.
• Time Management: Ability to prioritize and clean several rooms or floors efficiently within check-out and check-in windows.
• Attention to Detail: Spotting maintenance issues (like broken lights or leaking pipes) and reporting them to management immediately.

Age Limit

Candidates should preferably be below 40 years as on 30 October 2026. The Institute reserves the right to relax any of the qualification, experience or age limit in exceptional cases. It may also relax them for a person who already holds an analogous position in a Government Department, a Research and Academic Institution or Industry.

Selection and Interview

TISS may shortlist the applications it receives. Having the prescribed qualifications and the required experience does not by itself entitle a candidate to be called for the interview. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by e-mail or mobile phone on or before 14 November 2026. They will then appear for an interaction on 17 November 2026.

Documents are verified at the interaction. Shortlisted candidates should bring self-attested photocopies of:

• Work Experience certificates
• ID Proof

They should also bring the original documents for verification. The selected candidate will be required to join immediately.
